Mehbooba Elected PDP President 6th Time

Jammu: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was today unanimously re-elected as the president of Peoples Democratic Party for the sixth consecutive term. Returning Officer for the elections, Abdur Rehman Veeri, announced this after the name of Mehbooba Mufti was proposed by Dr. Haseeb Drabu and seconded by Trilok Singh Bajwa. In her speech of acceptance, Mehbooba Mufti thanked the members of the electoral college for reposing trust in her leadership. She assured the members of the electoral college to carry forward the party's basic declaration with renewed enthusiasm and vigour. Mehbooba Mufti has been a dominant force in J&K politics over the past 20 years and was first time elected as the party president in 2003. Much of the credit for building PDP as a strong regional political force goes to her. Senior party leader and Member Parliament Muzzafar Hussain Baig also spoke on the occasion and asked the members of the party to strengthen the hands of the party president. Others who spoke on the occasion included party vice-president Muhammad Sartaj Madni, NizammudinBhat, Syed Basharat Bukhari, Choudhary Zulfkar, Rafi Ahmad Mir and Saiffudin Bhat. PDP leaders hail Mehbooba's re-election: PDP leaders have hailed the re election of Mehbooba Mufti describing it as a justified mandate to lead the party and the State. In a joint statement issued here today, vice-president Muhammad SartajMadni, members of Council of Ministers, senior leaders, Muhammad Dillawar Mir, NizamuddinBhat, T S Bajwa, Rafi Ahmad Mir, Qazi Afzal, Ved Mahajan, ChZulfkar, Nayeema Ahmad Mehjoor, Mehboob Iqbal, Syed Asgar Ali, besides party legislators said her-re election will augur well for the party and the State as she will lead from front with a renewed resolve and added dedication. The leaders said that unanimity in the party on her re-election and the unflinching support extended to her will help her to vigorously exude authority as Chief Minister for the betterment of the people of the State. They said that Mehbooba Mufti is an embodiment of struggle and her grass root connect is a glaring quality of her leadership. They hoped that the mission of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed which includes the resolution of political and economic issues facing the State will be accomplished under her dynamic leadership.
