Clashes Rock Narbal, Anantnag, Pulwama, 4 Cops Among 17 Injured14 July 2017
Srinagar: At least 17 persons, including four policemen, were injured in clashes between youth and the government forces personnel in Narbal, Anantnag and Pulwama on Friday, even as forces arrested 19 youth in south Kashmir, reports and witnesses said. A witness said that clashes between the forces and youth erupted in Narbal chowk after Friday prayers. 'At least ten youth and four policemen sustained injuries in the clashes,' the witness said. 'The clashes were going on at Narbal ghat till late evening.' In Downtown Srinagar, government had imposed strict curbs in the areas falling under the jurisdiction of six police stations, including Maharaj Gunj, Safa Kadal, Khanyar, Nowhatta and Rainawari. Maisuma area of civil lines also witnessed similar curbs. At the historic Jamia Masjid, the government didn't allow the Friday prayers for the fourth consecutive week. All gates of Jamia Masjid were locked by government forces while roads leading to the historic Masjid were blocked with concertina wires. In a tweet, Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq while reacting to curfew, wrote: 'Strict curfew imposed. Friday prayers again disallowed for the fourth consecutive week at *JamaMasjid. PDP has completely brazened it out. As part of anti-Muslim, anti Kar nexus, it is beyond redemption....' Meanwhile, reports of protests after Friday prayers also came in from Soura and Hydepora area of Srinagar. Pulwama town observed shutdown on Friday to express solidarity with a youth Obaid Ahmad, who was hit by a bullet in his left leg fired by the government forces on Thursday. All shops and other business establishments were closed in the town. However the traffic plied normally. Clashes erupted between protesters and government forces in Chatapora locality of the town after Friday prayers. Youth took to streets and staged protests against the use of force on peaceful protesters on Thursday. Police and paramilitary forces deployed in the area used tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters, who retaliated with stones triggering clashes. Locals said that at least five protesters were detained during the clashes.
