Palhallan: Intense clashes erupted between local youth and armed forces in volatile area of Palhallan town in Baramulla district on Thursday. Local sources and reports said that battle between men in uniform and civilians unfolded when forces raided the village for 'search operation'. Eyewitness said that as soon as forces tried to cordon Tantray Mohalla of Palhallan this morning, scores of residents started throwing rocks on them. The forces retaliated by lobbing smoke shells to disperse the protesting youth. Locals alleged that forces used 'pellets and force' on protesters injuring few of them. Block Medical Officer Pattan, Dr Manzoor, confirmed that one youth identified as Aamir from Palhallan had received injuries on his nose. 'I can't say whether it is a pellet injury or stone injury but due to severe bleeding and vomiting we referred the injured youth to SKIMS for advanced treatment,' BMO Pattan told The Varmul Post, a newspaper run from the district headquarter. Reports further informed that forces reached Tantray Mohalla to nab the alleged stone pelters. Initial reports suggested that two dozen youth were reportedly injured in the clashes. However, no official from police could be contacted to verify the situation.
