New Delhi: Jammu will have the country's 20th Indian Institute of Management with the academic session starting this year while an out-campus of the institute will be set up in Kashmir later as the Cabinet on Thursday approved the decision under the Prime Minister's development package for the state. The Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi also gave an approval to the proposal for the modernisation of infrastructureat NIT-Srinagar. 'A corpus of Rs 100 crore has been sanctioned for the modernisation. The Cabinet has also approved a Rs 50-crore project for seven hostels for girl students. Three such hostels will come up in Jammu region, three in the Valley and one in Leh,' said Union Minister for Human Resources Development Prakash Javdekar. The minister also stated the opening of the IIM in a temporary campus at Old Government College of Engineering and Technology would cost '61.90 for the first four years. 'The institute along with IIT at Jammu, besides the modernisation of NIT-Srinagar, and the opening of two new AIIMS campuses, one each in the Kashmir region and the Jammu region, will go a long way in meeting the requirement of high-quality living and education in the state,' the government said in a statement. Reacting to the Cabinet decision, Jammu and Kashmir Opposition leader Omar Abdullah termed it an instance of 'blatant partisan politics'. 'Jammu gets the IIT & gets the IIM also. Where have all those voices that called for balanced regional development in J-K disappeared?' the former chief minister tweeted. Earlier, an Indian Institute of Technology was approved for the Jammu region. The decision to approve the IIM for Jammu is just blatant partisan politics of the kind 'we' have come to expect from the BJP-PDP coalition, Omar said, adding that 'no wonder so much of the state is restive today'. The National Conference leader said when Kashmir was awarded an AIIMS, Jammu agitated, successfully, for its right to be granted one as well. Omar also hit out at Mehbooba saying she had sold her soul to remain in power. 'I realise that @MehboobaMufti has had to sell out her political agenda to remain in power but I didn't realise she's sold her soul also!!!' the Opposition politician wrote on Twitter.
