Jammu: The Army will vacate more than 2,000 kanals of land in Jammu, Srinagar, Anantnag and Kargil by March 31. The move is being seen as a step towards fulfilling one of PDP's demands as a confidence-building measure ahead of government formation in Jammu and Kashmir. An Army spokesperson said here late Thursday evening that the land includes 16.30 acres (130.4 kanals) adjoining the Jammu University campus, 212 acres (1,696 kanals) on Tattoo Ground in Srinagar, 456.6 kanals at High Grounds in Anantnag, and the land held at Lower Khurba Thang in Kargil. Governor N N Vohra and Northern Army Commander Lt Gen D S Hooda will pay a joint visit to the Tattoo Ground site before March 31 to discuss certain proposals regarding its utilisation for creating a park, recreational facilities, etc, the spokesperson said. Vohra said that a panel headed by Chief Secretary will visit Jammu University, Kargil and Anantnag to satisfy all formalities on the spot.
