Srinagar: The government formation continues to remain under freeze in Jammu and Kashmir with the People's Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Friday reiterating her conditions saying, 'there is no question of compromise on late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed's principles.' Speaking in Jammu during the membership drive of the party, Ms.Mufti's speech to her party workers showed no signs of thaw with the alliance partner BJP over government formation. 'Mufti Sahib's legacy was his ideas and the party that he established to give democracy its real competitive edge,' said Ms.Mufti. She asked party workers 'to strengthen the party roots by reaching out to the masses'. Announcing a State-wide membership drive, Ms.Mufti said, 'The party not only offers the vision of integration of regions, peace, development, reconciliation and strengthening of democratic institutions, but it works practically in these directions as well.' She said the decision to break away from the Congress was 'to provide a regional alternative to the people.' 'We were comfortable within the largest political party of the country but he (Mufti) sacrificed power for the interests of the people. He always preferred principles over power and it will remain a guiding code for us,' she said. Member Parliament and senior party leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig, speaking on the occasion, said, 'The meetings are just focused on the membership drive and not anything else.' 'We are fortunate to have a leader like Ms.Mehbooba Mufti in the driving seat. Her leadership qualities, organisational skills, vision and political understanding are no less. We have no doubts in our minds that we are in safe hands,' said Mr.Baig.
