Srinagar: Ending speculations, People's Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday said its alliance with the BJP will continue and that Mehbooba Mufti will step into her father's shoes to become the next chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir. 'BJP-PDP alliance will continue and there is no doubt about it. We have worked hard for it. It has been carved out after negotiations for over two months. There is an agenda of alliance between the two and every issue has been sorted out,' Mehboob Beg, chief spokesman of PDP, told dna. Beg, who had unsuccessfully contested Lok Sabha polls from Anatnag against Mehbooba Mufti on the National Conference ticket before switching sides, noted that PDP chief will be the next chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir. 'Of course, she will become the chief minister. There is no doubt about it. If you go through the agenda of alliance, all political issues have been resolved. And this alliance of PDP and BJP will complete its full term,' he said. PDP, however, has not given any time-frame when Mehbooba Mufti would be ready to take oath of office. Sources said the process for government formation will kick off only after the end of seven days of state mourning on Wednesday. Beg's statement has brought cheers in the BJP camp which was feeling jittery after speculations about alignments and realignments following the demise of Mufti. 'There was lot of rumour mongering going around. Speculations about PDP's rethink was indeed a matter of concern for us. But we were confident that this alliance will not break given that it was formed by late Mufti,' said a top BJP leader. BJP is now hoping that PDP will take the decision about the swearing-in in a couple of days so that the period of uncertainty ends in the state. 'Next few days are crucial. We hope PDP will take a call so that governor's rule is put to an end and development process picks up a steam under political dispensation,' said the leader.
