Srinagar: Day after being nominated as 'lifetime chairman' of the Hurriyat Conference (G), veteran separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani on Thursday vowed to 'strengthen the ongoing movement for right to self-determination, at grassroots.' 'Kashmiris are fighting for a just cause and to safeguard their sentiments and sacrifices, the newly-formed committees of the conglomerate will leave no stone unturned to strengthen the movement at grassroots in all regions of Jammu and Kashmir,' Geelani told Greater Kashmir. He said the re-energized conglomerate has 'support of most of the pro-freedom leaders and will pursue the cause of Kashmiris even if we have to sacrifice our lives for it.' 'Despite being signatory to UN resolution guaranteeing right to self-determination to Kashmiris, New Delhi has squeezed space of dissent of Kashmiris. Bullets are showered on peaceful protesters and our youth are being killed in cold-blood with impunity. In this situation, the conglomerate will highlight sufferings of Kashmiris inflicted by Indian forces and police, at the international level,' he said. Elaborating, Geelani said: 'We will submit memoranda in High Commissions of various countries and seek their intervention to impress upon India to stop human rights violations in Kashmir and resolve the dispute according to wishes of people and UN resolutions.' On Wednesday, the Advisory Council meeting (Majlis-e-Shura) accepted Geelani as lifetime chairman on the basis of his 'unshakable, steadfast, uncompromised and active leadership.' 'We accept him as lifetime Chairman as not only the people of Jammu & Kashmir but the people at international levels are looking towards this leadership,' the Council had stated.
