Two Hizbul Militants Killed In Encounter In South Kashmir

Srinagar: Two Hizbul Mujahedeen militants have been killed in an encounter at Tral in Pulwama district of South Kashmir. A defence spokesperson said that two militants were killed in the encounter, which broke out on late Friday evening, at Ratsuna Mohalla of Tral. 'Based on specific intelligence about presence of two militants, a coordinated joint operation was launched by Rashtriya Rifles units of Army and the Special Operation Group of Police, resulting into killing of two hardcore militants,' the spokesperson said. He said that the army and the SOG launched the search operation on the Friday night and the village was 'effectively cordoned preventing escape of militants.' 'The contact was established in the late hours of Friday, and fire continued for some time resulting into killing of two militants,' he said. The slain militants have been identified as Shabir Mir and Idris Ahmad Shah, residents of Tral and were affiliated to Hizbul Mujahedeen outfit. The spokesperson also said that the security forces have recovered 2 AK47 rifles, 6 magazines and 90 rounds of AK 47 from the encounter site. This is the second encounter in the last three days in South Kashmir. Two Hizbul Mujahedeen militants were killed and four army men were injured in the encounter in Shopian district in South Kashmir on Wednesday evening.
