Jammu: An organisation advocating the cause of displaced Kashmiri Pandits on Friday expressed gratitude to parliamentarians in the UK for tabling the first-ever motion in the house commemorating displacement of their community. 'We express our satisfaction and gratitude over the manner in which the Kashmiri Pandit holocaust issue by UK Parliamentarians was raised as a motion expressing concern over the KP community,' said Ashwani Chrungoo, President of Panun Kashmir. He was addressing the Political Affairs Committee, which met in Jammu on Friday to take stock of the recent important developments. In this connection, it is gratifying to note that the parliamentarians in the UK tabled an important motion in the house expressing their concern about the Kashmiri Pandits, the indigenous people of Kashmir, now living in exile, he added. The Early Day Motion (EDM) was tabled by the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) of British Hindus, led by lawmaker Bob Blackman and supported by four other MPs. It is in tune with the resolution introduced by Congressman Frank Pallone in the US House of lawmakers three years ago, he added. 'We also express our sincere thanks to the KP activists in the UK who were instrumental in making this happen,' he said. Chrungoo said, 'We are reminded of a similar resolution that was brought by the Madhya Pradesh government in favour of the displaced Pandit community in the year 2009.' 'This is a major headway for the Kashmiri Pandit struggle in exile and we stand emboldened with this great gesture of the international community', he added.
