60 Militants Infiltrated To Kashmir This Year: MHA

Srinagar: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has expressed concern over 'increasing infiltration' and alerted the Jammu and Kashmir government about the 'possibility of escalation in militant actions in near future.' A senior official at the Department of Internal Security and Jammu and Kashmir Affairs at the MHA told Greater Kashmir that about 60 militants have succeeded in sneaking into Kashmir this year. 'The first successful infiltration bid has taken place in May this year in Keran Sector of Kupwara district in which 14 militants entered the Valley,' the official said. He said there have been eight more 'successful infiltration bids' so far this year. He said: 'We are expecting more infiltration attempts in the coming months. All security agencies have been informed about it.' The official said all infiltration bids have taken place in Keran, Tangdhar, and Machil sectors. 'Of 60 infiltrated militants, the forces have killed 14 in different encounters so far,' he said. The official said a note caution has been communicated to J&K Government and top security officials on the 'likely spurt in militant actions in coming months.' The official said in the past two months, a few locals have joined militant ranks mostly in south Kashmir.
