Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Minister of State for Health Shabir Ahmad Khan on Friday stepped down as Minister from the Omar Abdullah's cabinet in an alleged molestation case while the Governor N N Vohra has accepted the resignation. 'Khan has submitted his resignation to the Chief Minister after he was booked in an alleged case of molestation of a lady doctor,' police said. According to Raj Bhawan sources the resignation of Shabir Khan has been accepted by the Governor, NN Vohra after forwarding by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah. 'I have received the resignation of the Minister of State for Health Shabir Khan and am forwarding the same to the Governor for acceptance,' Abdullah wrote on the micro-blogging Twitter. Khan was booked yesterday after a lady doctor, who is wife of Kashmiri separatist leader alleged that the minister had called him to his office in Srinagar and attempted to molest her. Meanwhile a case was registered against him under Sec 354 RPC (assault or criminal force on a woman with the intention to outrage her woman) and Section 509 of RPC (word, gesture or act intended to outrage the modesty of a woman) against him. The woman also said in her complaint that she felt uncomfortable and quickly left the room after the minister allegedly tried to molest her. Meanwhile Governor N N Vohra has accepted the resignation of Shabir Khan from Council of Omar Abdullah ministry . 'The letter of resignation of Shabir Ahmad Khan, recommended and forwarded by the Chief Minister has been accepted with immediate effect by the Governor,' official spokesman here said. However, Peoples Democratic Party Chief ,Mehbooba Mufti has raised question ,when Journalist Tarun Tejpal can be arrested by Goa Police, why not Shabir Khan and today called for immediate arrest of Shabir Khan. 'There is an apprehension that being an influential person he could try to pressurize and influence the witnesses and destroy evidence which requires that he should have been taken into custody immediately on registration of an FIR,' PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said in Jammu. She said that govt must come clean on the reports that the police had refused to register an FIR lodged by the victim of this sexual assault and that she had been forced to approach the court for seeking an order for registration of an FIR. Mehbooba further said that the Chief Minister instead of tweeting the information about resignation of minister should have made a formal announcement before the press and explained the whole sequence of events. 'He should also explain the delay in registering of an FIR and general impression is that the Govt is trying to hush up the scam,' she alleged.
