Srinagar: Stating that he is unaware about the pre-formation details of third Hurriyat led Shabir Shah, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani said that splits among pro freedom leadership are in no way hurdles in settlement of Kashmir issue. “Splits or unification of Huriyat Conference is no impediment in the process of resolution of Kashmir issue and that it is the ‘stubborn attitude’ of Delhi that is creating hurdles in its settlement,” Geelani said while talking to KNS. When asked if the Huriyat (JK) contacted him expressing its willingness to merge with his faction of Hurriyat Conference, Geelani said ‘no’. “No they did not contact me. I have no knowledge how the third Huriyat was formed.” Without naming any party or a leader, Geelani said no solution other than right to self determination is acceptable to the people of Kashmir for the permanent its settlement. He said: “Even if the constitution is claimed to be restored, it hardly matters for us. The policy matters differ.” He advised that Kashmir’s younger generation must not concentrate over the formations of new amalgams or the party splits but should always emphasize that the region is ‘under occupation’ and ‘there is where all evils sprout.” On different proposals including setting up of a joint parliament for the two divided parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Geelani said the proposal will be out rightly rejected by him. “Our ideology is clear. We want promises made with the people of Kashmir to be fulfilled and want that the UN resolutions be implemented so that people of this troubled land could decide their fate.” Geelani stated further that New Delhi is ‘crushing the dissent’ in Jammu and Kashmir through the barrel of gun and that the ‘autocratic attitude’ of its dispensation has undermined the system of justice in Kashmir. “There rhetoric is that gun is no solution to the problem, through this they mean the gun of Mujahideen (Militants) but what about 10 million guns here that terrorize even the very basis of our society.” Geelani stated that when youth in Kashmir are being ‘pushed to wall’, then only they resort to stone pelting. He said that stone hurling is always a reactionary action in Kashmir. “When the peaceful protests are being curbed and the ruthless treatment is given to the protesters, then only our youth pick up stones for their self defense. It is never an action but a reaction.” Dissatisfied over the present situation in Afghanistan and in other Muslim countries, Geelani said that it seems that no one really in the Muslim world in capable of helping the people of Kashmir. “As for as Taliban is concerned I want them to stabilize their own country. Even after exodus of Soviet Union from that land, the country is still facing instability.”
