Massive Operation In Cherhar Forests Continues

Srinagar: Massive search operation in North Kashmirís Sopore forests and adjoining villages continued for third day today as security forces feel that the group of militants are still present in the area. The operation that was launched by Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police and 27-Rashtriya Rifles on Friday after they received information about a group of militants hiding in the Cherhar forests of Sopore. The operation was extended to nearby villages of Marbel, Chirhar, Hard Shiva, Yemberzal, Rishipora, Rampur and Rajpur of Cherhar forests yesterday and security forces are keeping vigil at suspicious movements. Sources said that the Army today used helicopters during the searches of the forest area to track the movement of the militant group in the dense Cherhar forests. Security forces continued restrictions of the movement of the people in the villages adjacent to the forest as they have reports that some of the militants might have fled to these villages after their forest hideout was busted on Friday. More troops belonging to 14, 22 and 30 RR were rushed to the area to assist the troops who had initially cordoned off the area. Army commandos of 5 PARA are assisting the security forces in the operation. Security forces feel that some of the militants are hiding somewhere in Harbang Nallah of Hard Shiva forest area and the area is being thoroughly searched. Security forces during the searches busted a militant hideout and recovered large quantity of eatables, utensils and blankets on Friday and they believe after the busting of the hideout militants might have shifted to nearby villages. Sources said that the operation will continue tomorrow as the security forces believe that the militant group didnít flee away and its members are still present in forest area and nearby villages.
