Srinagar: Chairman Peoples Conference, Sajad Lone, Friday deplored the present fiscal crisis confronting J&K and condemned the alleged mis-management of the economy by the State government. “Under the present government, every institution of the State is in acute decay. As if implementing a calibrated strategy, the present government is hell bent on destroying every single institution and function of the State. Never has the State faced fiscal crisis on this level before where even payment of the employees’ salaries is in jeopardy,” Sajad said in a statement. “Functioning on a crisis creation then frantic diffusion cycle, rather than insightful long term planning, the present dispensation’s principle of governance has been based on a two-point agenda of complacent loot and plunder only to dash to New Delhi when its created crisis assume horrific extents. This is however nothing new but the practical manifestation of political conditioning inherited by NC and perfected over several generations,” he said. “Ever so keen to prove their credentials to New Delhi, the present crisis has mostly been generated by the institutional switch of the State’s fiscal assistance from J&K Bank to Reserve Bank of India. Beyond the fiscal complications that it is now producing, it is also another feather in the NC cap of yet again contributing to the erosion of the state’s Autonomy – this time its Economic Autonomy. By hedging the State’s economic management with RBI, taking it away from the indigenous J&K Bank, NC has firmly placed the reigns of Kashmir’s economic control away from its indigenous institutions and at the pleasure of Delhi. This is but a normative attribute of NC’s hypocritical politicking wherein it never tires of presenting its Autonomy Report as the panacea of all that is wrong in Kashmir and as a plank to ask for votes from the people of Kashmir. However once in power on the dint of these votes it becomes an earnest colluder in undermining the interests and Autonomy of those very people.” Terming the various electoral gimmicks employed by both the Delhi sweethearts - NC and PDP- to have lost their shelf-life, Sajad said the electorate today has evolved to become more responsible and mature, thanks to the reigns of terror unleashed by both the parties. “It will be naïve on the part of both NC and PDP to think that the people of Kashmir have forgotten the roles played by the patrons of both the Delhi favoured blue-eyed parties. The young voter today may have been too young to remember the roles cast by both Farooq Abdullah in his capacity as India’s main spokesperson on Kashmir and Mufti Sayeed as the Interior Minister during the height of the movement in Kashmir, yet the family scars endured by these youngsters who have to live with them each day is a reminder of who let them down hedging their bets with the other side and preferred to facilitate the bloodbath in Kashmir by assisting the counter-insurgency operations in the State. They can identify very well who the deserters are as well as the pretenders and also who in contrast chose to stand by them. As the winds of change sweep across the region it is the responsibility of every Kashmiri to be a part of this change and dismantle the icons of modern slavery and contribute towards an era of true empowerment of the voiceless Kashmiri,” he said.
