Srinagar: German Ambassador to India Michael Steiner today inaugurated a mini solar plant donated by the German Embassy in a remote village of Kashmir Valley. Steiner inaugurated the mini solar plant and a TV system in Gogoldara village of Baramulla district, an official of the German Embassy said. 'The Ambassador interacted with the villagers, listened to their needs and also watched a sequence of the Kashmir Concert with them as they had wanted but could not do so on September 7,' a release issued by German Embassy said. The German Ambassador, who was the brain behind the music concert of internationally acclaimed orchestra conductor Zubin Mehta in September this year, came under criticism for organising what the critiques termed an 'elitist event'. Steiner is scheduled to visit the HELP Foundation orphanage here tomorrow, where he will interact with the children as well as with students from Shah Anwar Memorial Secondary School Kupwara. The Ambassador will also hand over the keys of a 40-seater bus to the school in Kupwara, donated by the German Embassy. 'My ninth visit to Kashmir this year is part of our continuous social and civic commitment for this troubled place - from health care to education. 'Within our limited possibilities, we lend focused, sustainable support on a people-to-people basis. Our engagement is about striking a true cord with the Kashmiris,' Steiner said in the release. The German Embassy has been engaged in Valley for several years and it has so far funded the Village Health Camp in Mattipoora as well as the construction of an ambulant medical center near Baramulla. The Ambassador is in touch with a German company, one of the world's leading suppliers of materials and component testing systems, interested in setting up a training center in the region, the Embassy release said. It said Steiner continues to foster cultural exchange between Germany and Kashmir. 'Last Saturday, Ambassador Steiner hosted Pandit Bhajan Sopori and his Academy of Music and Performing Arts at his Residence in Delhi - an evening blessed with Kashmiri musicians playing live,' it added.
