2 Congress Workers Injured In Kashmir Shootout

Srinagar: Two Congress activists sustained gunshot wounds in a shootout at Barzulla near Bandipore district headquarters in northern Kashmir on Wednesday evening. Official sources said that gunshots were heard at a link road outside the village. Residents later found two persons, Mudassar Ahmad Baba and Abdul Majid Khan, bleeding on the spot. They were rushed to Srinagar and admitted to Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences [SKIMS], Soura. Baba, who sustained gunshot wounds in his abdomen, is critical. Khan was hit in his foot. Sources told The Hindu that Khan mentioned the names of the two security personnel attached to the People’s Democratic Party MLA Nizamuddin Bhat and told the police that they were around the spot before the “attack”. Police checked the service weapons of the two accused constables, Altaf and Iftikhar. However, the empties seized at the spot did not match with their guns. Sources said that Khan later changed his statement and told the police that he had not recognised the two gunmen.
