Srinagar: The Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front Muhammad Yasin Malik Friday cautioned that Kashmir would turn into another Afghanistan if the issue is not resolved on priority. “To ensure peace and stability in the entire world, India and the international community should fulfill their responsibilities with regard to Kashmir resolution,” Malik said, addressing a public gathering at Kangan Chowk in Ganderbal district. He said, “The international community led by US declared a war against Taliban in Afghanistan and attacked the country through the military intervention. The people of Afghanistan also used violent means of resistance and this battle lasted for more than a decade. Today however the US forces are leaving Afghanistan and talking to Taliban.” Malik said, “On the other hand, Kashmiris gave up violent means of protest and started a non-violent struggle in 2008. But ironically, as soon as Kashmiris started this positive change, the world community forgot them and left them to face oppression and suppression of the worst kind. The rulers in India instead of respecting this positive change claimed a victory over Kashmiris and reciprocated with bullets, imprisonments and torture.” Malik said, “This contrasting situation of Afghanistan and Kashmir is extremely alarming and can lead to a disaster. Afghan people are being rewarded for their violence and Kashmiris humiliated for their peaceful approach. This can change the mindset of new generation from non-violence to violence. If this criminal silence, arrogant and denial attitude of New Delhi and the international community remain the same, nobody can stop these young boys of Kashmir, who have been suffering at the hands of unilateral state-sponsored violence, from taking to guns and starting a new violent revolution.” Malik warned that “this would turn Kashmir into another Afghanistan and thus ruin every prospect of a peaceful settlement and jeopardize peace and stability of the sub-continent as well as the whole world.” “India and the international community will have to show some magnanimity and wisdom and take some positive steps and solve Kashmir according to the wishes, aspirations and sacrifices of Kashmiris,” he said. Referring to JK legislators, Malik said, “They are actually the worst enemies of Kashmir and Kashmiris. It is they who safeguard the interests of New Delhi and its forces in Kashmir. They pass laws that are against Kashmiris. They are hell bent to malign the peaceful struggle of Kashmiris.” Malik said, “Hypocritical behavior of the assembly members, be it independent candidates or those who belong to pro-India parties, is evident from the fact that they all cry against AFSPA but do nothing to eradicate the black law.” “Tamil Nadu and Punjab assemblies saved the lives of convicts who were declared killers of Rajiv Ghandhi and Baint Singh but it was Jammu Kashmir assembly and its members who paved way for hanging of Muhammad Afzal Guru and father of Kashmiri nation Muhammad Maqbool Bhat. A nation that has sacrificed its lakhs of people in the way of struggle has to safeguard their sacrifices and keep away from these pro-election parties and leaders,” Yasin Malik said. Emphasizing on the need of unity and harmony among Muslims in Kashmir, Malik appealed to all to safeguard the unity and brotherhood and “defeat all those forces who want to divide us on the basis of religion, sect, color, creed, region and caste.”
