117 Force Men, 93 Civilians Among 614 Killed In Militant Violence In 3 Yrs: Govt

Srinagar: The government Tuesday revealed that 404 militants, 117 police, paramilitary and army men and 93 civilians were killed in 687 militancy related incidents in the State in last three years. It also stated that 115 civilians died in law and order problems from 2010-12. “A total of 687 militancy related incidents were reported in J&K from 2010-12. 368 incidents took place in 2010 followed by 195 in 2011 and 124 in 2012,” the government said in a written reply to a starred question of PDP leader Syed Basharat Ahmad Bukhari in Assembly. The PDP legislator had sought to know the year-wise details of militancy-law and order related incidents reported in Valley during last 3 three years. The government said 404 militants were killed in three years. “232 were killed in 2010, 100 in 2011 and 72 in 2012. Similarly, 47, 31 and 15 civilian killings took place in 2010, 2011 and 2012 respectively”. “A total of 41 police-SPO-VDC members were killed from 2010-2012. 20 were killed in 2010 followed by 15 in 2011 and 6 in 2012”, it said. The government further disclosed that 76 paramilitary and security men were killed in militancy related incidents in last three years. “49 were killed in 2010, 18 in 2011 and 9 in 2012”. Referring to stone pelting and law and order problems, government said 3408 stone pelting incidents were reported during last three years. “2794, 330 and 284 stone pelting incidents took place in 2010, 2011 and 2012 respectively,” it said. It further said that 115 civilian casualties took place while dealing with law and order problems. “109 civilians were killed in 2010, 5 in 2011 and one in 2012,” the government said without divulging information whether they were killed by cops, paramilitary or army men.
