Srinagar: Security forces killed five Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists at Preng in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district on Friday, the J&K police said. Ganderbal SP Shahid Meraj said the five, led by Qari Assadullah, were Pakistanis and had been active in the area for the last six months. 'They were caught unawares when security forces surrounded them near Preng bridge.' He said it was a joint police and Rashtriya Rifles operation. A defence spokesman said the five were surrounded following a specific intelligence input regarding their movement. 'A surgical and clinical joint operation was launched resulting in the elimination of the five, including a district commander, and recovery of five AK-47 rifles, 11 magazines, seven grenades,' he said. 'On being challenged, the terrorists fired. A heavy firefight ensued, lasting for over two hours despite difficult terrain and poor visibility.'
