Jammu: In yet another ceasefire violation, Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing at Indian posts along the line of control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu & Kashmir all through the night till Saturday morning. This was the 18th ceasefire violation by Pakistan since August 6 when five Indian soldiers were killed in cross-LoC firing. A defence spokesman said Pakistani troops fired with small and medium range weapons at Indian positions in Mendhar and Hamidpur areas in Poonch. 'Unprovoked firing from Pakistani side, targeting our positions, started at 9.45pm Friday night at Mendhar and Hamidpur areas along the LoC in Poonch. Our troops retaliated the fire,' he said. According to sources there was intermittent firing till 1.30am. It resumed at 3am and continued till 6.30am in Balakote sector. There were no casualties on the Indian side. Earlier on Friday, Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire in Kargil and Drass sectors on Friday, the first time since the Kargil War in 1999. This comes after a series of ceasefire violations by Pakistan which included a cross border raid where five Indian soldiers were killed.
