Srinagar: Asserting that no talks would bear fruit without the active participation of people of Kashmir, Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M), Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday said the amalgam would write letters to Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan urging them to start a meaningful and result-oriented dialogue process for resolving the Kashmir issue. He said Hurriyat leadership was ready to be part of ‘result-oriented’ parleys on Kashmir. He also said that New Delhi should take cue from dialogue between United States and Taliban, Palestine and Israel which has made it clear that “measures to crush movements through force don’t last.” Addressing a mammoth congregation of people on Jumat-ul-Vida (last Friday of Ramadhan) at the historic Jamia Masjid here, Mirwaiz said the Hurriyat has decided to reach out to the Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan. “We will write letters to Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and urge them to start a meaningful dialogue process for Kashmir resolution. We will also convey to both countries that Hurriyat will become part of result-oriented dialogue process aimed at resolving the Kashmir issue,” Mirwaiz said. He, however, said that Hurriyat would “talk as owners, not slaves.” “Kashmir belongs to us and Kashmiris are masters of their land though we have been occupied by a force which is biggest power after China. We want to make it clear to both India and Pakistan that no solution can be reached without the active participation of people of Kashmir,” he said. Mirwaiz said United States, a country claiming to be super power, after using enough force in Afghanistan to muzzle Taliban, had to end up with dialogue with Taliban. “While US will talk to Taliban, Israel is holding a dialogue with Palestine,” he said. “This is a lesson for New Delhi that they can’t suppress the genuine Kashmir movement for long by using excessive force and various oppressive measures.” He said people of Kashmir are peace loving but the fact remains that until the issue would be resolved; peace won’t prevail in South Asia. Mirwaiz lashed out at National Conference for bartering State’s water resources through various agreements and pacts. “When we talk of Kashmir as a political issue, we also say that it has an economic dimension as well. We demand all agreements including Indus Water Treaty should be re-negotiated in the interests of Kashmiris,” he said. Taking a dig at the mainstream parties, Mirwaiz said these parties are using different tactics to deceive people. “NC says separatists and mainstream parties should unite. The PDP on the other hand claims that if it would get 40 seats, it will resolve Kashmir. All this is deception and vote bank politics,” he said. “We tell them if they are really serious in resolving Kashmir, they should join the ranks of Hurriyat leadership which is firm in its belief that elections can never be a substitute to Kashmir solution.” Mirwaiz made it clear that contesting elections was against the Hurriyat constitution and Kashmir solution was the first priority of the amalgam. “People should stay away from pro-India politicians as they are using different modes to win votes,” he said. Mirwaiz also read out a resolution regarding Youm-e-Qudus- extending support to the people of Palestine and demanded the control of Masjid-e-Al-Aqsa be handed over to the Muslims of Palestine. “We urge the international community to play their role in giving control of Al-Aqsa back to the people of Palestine,” he said. Mirwaiz also said the Jumat-ul Vida has been observed as Youm-e-Kashmir. “It was my late father Mirwaiz Moulana Muhammad Farooq, who made announcement in 1988 that Jumat-ul-Vida should be observed as Youm-e-Kashmir besides Youm-e-Qudus,” Mirwaiz said and raised pro-Islam and pro-freedom slogans.
