Anantnag: Asserting that resolution of Kashmir issue lies within the ambit of Indian Constitution, former Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Muhammad Sayeed Thursday hailed former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee for his political vision. “There are people in Kashmir who want secession from India and are for Azadi (independence). It is their democratic right and they are free to propagate their ideology as democracy is the battle of ideas. But we have a firm belief in Indian Constitution and are for resolution of Kashmir issue within the ambit of Indian Constitution,” said Mufti. He was addressing a gathering in Deethu village of Shangus constituency in south Kashmir’s Islamabad (Anantnag) district. “Our party will fight for restoring the honor, dignity, self respect and pride of Jammu and Kashmir within the framework of Indian Constitution,” said Mufti. He said that he will try to eliminate the trust deficit prevailing between New Delhi and Kashmiris and get rid of the political uncertainty in the state. Hailing former Prime Minister of India,Atal Behari Vajpayee for his vision and the efforts he put in to restore peace in Kashmir, Mufti said; “When Vajpayee visited Kashmir, I told him that people of Kashmir want peace and their self respect to be restored and he readily extended hand of friendship towards Pakistan and the Kashmiris were ultimate beneficiaries.” He said when General Parvez Musharraf pitched for resolution of Kashmir issue, Vajpayee told him that Indian people will not be ready to let go off even an inch of land and urged that the borders be made irrelevant. “The opening of Srinagar-Muzaffarabad and Poonch-Rawalakote roads was a step in this direction. Our party strived for making Kashmir economic free zone and joint management of prestigious projects between two sides of Kashmir”. Mufti said that Vajpayee’s vision was the best possible solution that we can have for the long pending Kashmir issue. Asking the people to give his party absolute mandate, Mufti said PDP will change the political dimensions of Jammu and Kashmir if voted to power. “Votes are the only weapons by which Kashmiri people have to change their destiny,” said Mufti, “I promise the people of Kashmir that I will change the political dimensions of Kashmir if voted to power”. He said that caging the entire population on the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s visit to Kashmir is an apt example of uncertainty. “PM’s visit should have been the moment for joy but it brought miseries to common man” “PMs visited Kashmir when we were in power, we did not hold the entire population of Kashmir hostage,” Mufti said. He said that since the National Conference led regime took the reins of power political uncertainty is looming large. “All the hard work done by us during our tenure has been undone by the present regime. During its five years of rule the current dispensation has alienated the people with arrests, torture and harassment of youth, killing of unarmed civilians becoming the order of day,” said Mufti. He also blamed the mis-governance, corruption and nepotism in the state for hampering development works. He said that his party wants the resolution of Kashmir issue and the Economic well-being of the state to go in tandem. “We will come up with a political and economic agenda prior to the elections,” said Mufti. He said that getting rid of corruption and improving education and health scenario of the state will be among his top priorities. Mufti expressed his dismay that train was flagged off from Banihal while Qazigund station in Kashmir valley was ignored. Mufti while hailing local MLA, Mansoor Hussain said that he despite being in opposition has done his best for the development of constituency. Senior party leader Rafi Ahmad Mir criticized Omar Abdullah for undermining the institution of Chief Minister. “He (Omar) has always expressed his helplessness in dealing with sensitive situations. When three innocent teenagers were killed in cold blood in the compound of a house by police at Anchidora in Islamabad town, CM assured of action within 24 hours but after three months he just managed to transfer the two Sub-Inspectors of police,” said Omar. Mir said that three years on the families are still waiting for justice. MLA Mansoor Hussain sought cooperation from Mufti Muhammad Sayeed for overall development of his constituency. “We dream of making a Shangus constituency a role model in development, education and health sector,” said Mansoor. “If voted to power I will surely request Mufti Sahab to sanction Women’s College for this constituency,” he said. Chief Spokesperson and MLC Naeem Akhtar, party treasurer Altaf Bukhari, senior leader Peer Muhammad Hussain and Abdul Salam Reshi were also present on the occasion.
