Police ‘solves’ Thathri Grenade Attack Case: 5 Militants Arrested

Doda: With the arrest of five militants, police claimed to have solved the grenade attack case of Police Station Thathri in Doda district. Acting on a tip off, police raided Gandoh area of the district and arrested two ultras- Rafiq Gujjar and Akhter- last night, police said, adding that with their arrest grenade attack case of Police Station Thathri has been solved. A case FIR number 33 of 2013 under section ESA 307 RPC has been registered against the duo after attack. The grenade was hurled during the intervening night of April 27 and 28, last which fell just short of Police Station Thathri thereby averting casualties of cops. Police spokesman said that during the course of investigation, police arrested five persons Abdul Rashid, 27, code Abdullah son of Mohammad Iqbal Hargah and Akhter Hussain, 23, son of Showket Ali Magray both residents of Tanta, Mohammad Rafi, 19, son Mohammad Ibrahim of Patnazi Bonjwah, Altaf Hussain, 19, son of Nazir Ahmed of Joura Gandoh at present Thathri and Mohammad Yaqoob, 26, son of Fateh Mohammad Gujjar of Bathree Gandoh. The cops recovered one AK-56 rifle, 3 Magazines of AK-56, 143 rounds of AK-56 rifle, 1 Chinese pistol, 1 Magazine of Chinese pistol, 5 rounds of Chinese pistol, 2 Chinese grenades, 1 pouch and 2 Walkie Talkie wireless sets (Motorola) on their disclosures. Police has also foiled the plot of execution of killings of police personnel and civilians with sophisticated weapons and grenades and to revive the militancy in the district. The accused arrested in the case are being put to sustained interrogation to take the investigation of the case to its logical conclusion, spokesman claimed. “As per the revelations made by the accused, the arms and ammunition were received by Abdul Rashid code Abdullah which was later given to rest of the four accused and had assigned them the task of the execution of the plot which included the killing of police officers and jawans, civilians and prominent persons. When the arrested persons failed to execute any of the killings they were tasked to hurl grenade at Police Station Thathri to kill the police officers so that these arrested persons can become confirmed militants and this group would be added by other youths of the area by motivating them,” spokesman added. The task of grenade hurling was given to Altaf Hussain son of Nazir Ahmed of Joura Gandoh at present Thathri who admitted this before police and the task of selective killings of police officers, civilians and prominent persons in Bhaderwah and Thathri areas of the district was given to Rafi and Akhter. Since there is no active confirmed militant in the district, source of the arms ammunition provided to the accused arrested is being investigated and case is also being investigated from all other angles other than the militancy angle. Police is trying to reach upto the mentor of the plot and the supplier of the arms ammunition to the accused which the police hope to succeed in a couple of days. The case is being investigated under the supervision of SP Doda, Mohammad Arif Rishu and DIG DKR Range, Ashkoor Ahmed Wani under the overall command of IGP Jammu Zone, Jammu Rajesh Kumar.
