People Of Ladakh Deserve Focused Attention: Rather

Jammu: Subject to the weather conditions, the Srinagar-Leh Highway will be thrown open for light motor vehicles from 6th of the current month while as movement of heavy vehicles will be allowed from April 16, after a fresh review of the road condition. This was decided at a high level meeting convened today in the Civil Secretariat, Jammu to finalize the current yearís transportation and stock building of essential commodities in Leh and Kargil districts, which remain locked almost for about 6 months each year. The Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs, Abdul Rahim Rather chaired the meeting. The Minister for Urban Development, Rigzin Jora, Minister of State for Science and Technology, Feroz Ahmed Khan, Chairman, LAHDC, Leh Rigzin Spalbar, Chairman, Kargil AHDC, Kachoo Ahmed Khan, Member Parliament, Hassan Khan, MLA, Nobra, Tsetan Namgyal, MLA, Kargil, Qamar Ali Akhoon, MLC, Kargil, Aga Syed Rizvi, MLC, Leh, Norbu Gailchan, concerned Administrative Secretaries, District Development Commissioners of Leh and Kargil and Heads of various concerned departments and PSUs also attended the meeting. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Rather called for coordinated efforts by all the departments connected with transportation and stock building of essential commodities and key construction materials to complete their assigned targets within the stipulated time. He said the implementation of the plan will be again reviewed in the month of August to assess the preparedness of the Government machinery with regards to stock building. He said people of Ladakh division deserve focused attention of the Government, keeping in view the harsh winters, tough and rugged topography of the region. While discussing the proposed stock building target for 2013-14 in district Kargil, it was informed that 76,000 qtls of Atta, 60,000 qtls of Rice and 300 qtls of Sugar will be stocked in the district whereas the target of dumping about 2 lakh domestic gas cylinders and 1560 commercial gas cylinders was entrusted to HP Gas Agency and the Kargil Indane Gas Agency. The Indian Oil Corporation will stock 2023 kilo litre (KL) of motor spirit (Ms), 2400 KL of Kerosin Oil (SKO) and 11587 kilolires of High Speed Diesel (HSD) in the district. The Forest Department will stock 10,000 cft of Kail and 20,000 cft of Fir. Targets were also fixed for building of buffer stock of cement, steel, CGI Sheets, Bitumen and medicines for both hospitals and Animal and Sheep Husbandry Centres in the district. Targets for stocking agriculture and horticulture inputs were also entrusted to the concerned departments. The plan for transportation of essential supplies including key construction materials to Leh district for the year 2013-14 was also discussed, in addition, to reviewing of the last yearís stock building targets. The public representatives of both Leh and Kargil district appreciated Mr Rather for streamlining the transportation and stock building system for essential commodities and key construction materials adding that since, Mr Rather took up the charge of Ladakh Affairs department, not a single complaint of shortage came forth neither from Kargil nor from Leh.
