Srinagar: The brother of Syed Liyaqat Shah, Inayat Shah Tuesday alleged that his brother is being continuously tortured and pressurized by Delhi police to change his statement. Liyaqat’s family members and relatives held a demonstration outside the office of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara and appealed district administration to impress on Government of India (GoI) that Liyaqat was returning to Kashmir under rehabilitation policy. “Delhi police is torturing and pressurizing Liyaqat to change his statement. I talked to Liyaqat for about 20 minutes in Delhi Police lockup and he requested me to take him out from the Cell,” Inayat told reporters. He said Liyaqat told him that he was being tortured daily by Delhi police. “He told me that Delhi Police is forcing him to admit that he was arriving to Delhi to plan a terrorist attack. He told me that Delhi Police was treating him like an animal”. “I went to meet Liyaqat second time few days ago. I had brought some fruits and clothes for him. When I went to the lock-up to meet him, Delhi police men told me to wait till 3 pm. After waiting there for the whole day, Delhi police told me that they have handed him to J&K police and he is in Jammu right now. After reaching Jammu, I realized that Delhi police had played a truant,” Inayat said. However, Delhi Police Special Cell Commissioner Sadanad Srivastav refuted the allegations saying Liyaqat is right now in judicial custody. “The statement of his brother is totally baseless. Recently a well-known newspaper stated that Liyaqat is very happy in custody and the biggest thing is that he is in judicial custody right now,” he said. Srivastav said police can’t anybody to change his statement.
