Baramulla: Police Saturday arrested a Sikh government employee from Kanispora village, Baramulla for his alleged involvement in the recent fidayeen attack on CRPF at Bemina, Srinagar. Sources said police in the wee hours today detained Pradeep Singh, 40, son of Bopinder Singh from his Kanispora, Baramulla residence on charges of providing logistical support to the fidayeen, who carried out attack on CRPF at Bemina, Srinagar on Wednesday (March 13). Five CRPF men and two attackers were killed in the fidayeen attack. “Pradeep was working as a Sanitary Inspector in Health Department on contractual basis. He was posted at Sub District Hospital Tangmarg,” they said. Sources said police was looking for Pradeep after his name cropped up during interrogation of guide Bashir Ahmed alias Haroon Bhai-a resident of Uri in North Kashmir, who was arrested on March 14, a day after the fidayeen attack. “My husband had told me that few days backs, some gunmen had forcibly entered his government quarter in Tangmarg, Baramulla and asked him to provide accommodation to them on gunpoint,” Pradeep’s wife Harmeet Kour told Rising Kashmir. She said her husband told her over phone that some people had stepped in his quarter and wanted to stay there for a night. Denying involvement of his husband in any militancy related activities, Kour said, “He was facing threat to life and what choice he was left with other than to provide accommodation to the gunmen. He was very frightened about stay of gunmen at his quarter. I told him to keep quiet about the incident”. Sources said police had raided Pradeep’s residence yesterday but he was not present there. “The policemen took his father Bopinder Singh alongwith them. In the wee hours today, Pradeep was arrested from his residence and subsequently his father was released from detention”. This is the third arrest in connection with the Bemina Fidayeen attack. Earlier, police arrested Zubair alias Abu Talha, a Pakistani militant from Chattabal area of Old City, Srinagar on the disclosures made by Bashir alias Haroon Bhai, a resident of Uri, Baramulla. Bashir is a former surrendered militant and was informer of security agencies. Sources said Zubair has told the interrogators that he had dropped the two 'fidayeens' (suicide attackers) along with Bashir, who earlier carried out a recce of the force's camp at a school playground in Bemina. Policy sources said Pradeep was arrested for providing shelter to group of militants at his official residence in Tangmarg. “His questioning is going on,” they said. The newly appointed IGP Kashmir range Abdul Gani Mir refused to comment on Pradeep’s arrest. “I don’t have details of anything as I took over the charge today only.”
