Strengthening NC Imperative To Regain Power In 2014: Omar

Srinagar: Chief minister Omar Abdullah today appealed to his party men to strengthen National Conference (NC) saying that it was the only way to regain power in 2014 assembly elections. He was speaking at a function at NC headquarter after former minister of state Nasir Aslam Wani took over as the new provincial president of the party. Omar also made a plea to senior party leaders to cooperate with Nasir for the better interests of the parts. Chief minister admitted that NC workers were upset and unhappy since their demands were not met during the last four years. “I know you have suffered a lot and your demands have not been met, but now that Nasir is here I will ensure that your demands are met while he is around.” He added that he has directed the ministers to make field visits necessary aspect in their working scheduled. “I have told them to meet the people and workers in all areas ascertaining their difficulties and seeking solution to the problems,” Omar said. Chief minister stated that NC ministers have been told that every tour should be in consultation with Nasir and this will be strictly adhered to. “If the ministers have an official meeting they can meet our party workers after that but I will not tolerate anybody ignoring the party,” Omar added. He stated that workers of NC have always cherished to strengthen the party and render sincere public service. “Power has never remained our goal but achieving welfare of the general people has been our benchmark. I am proud of all those leaders who did not utter even a word but gladly took up the party work only to strengthen the party at the grass root level,” said Omar adding “they know that government comes into existence when the party is strong. “If the party is strong then we can form a government, as such all the senior party leaders should ensure full cooperation to him. It is immaterial for party stalwarts to remain in the government or serve the party,” he said. Chief minister said NC is the party which has become strong when not in power.”This party has been built brink by brick by Baba-e-Qoum Sher- e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah who made this great party when he was not in power. This should be a lesson for all of us,” he added. Referring to appoint of Nasir as provincial president, chief minister said, “I came here to give Nasir to you and to this party, with the hope that as he has worked for three and a half years with me as a minister and strengthened my hands and served the state. I am sure he will now strengthen the party and serve the workers.” He added that the road ahead is not easy, there will be no let up in challenges. “But I know him as he has worked with me in the youth, in the opposition and in the government and he will take up the challenge, come up to the expectation of our president Dr. Farooq Abdullah who appointed him as the provincial president and serve the workers,” Omar added.
