Srinagar: Senior National Conference leader, Mustafa Kamal Friday said the hanging of Muhammad Afzal Guru will have a limited effect on the ground situation in Kashmir as the parliament attack convict does not have a political base in the valley. 'He does not have a political base so the effect could be limited,' said Kamal. ďAccording to non-governmental figures over 100000 people have died in Kashmir and the government puts the number at 50000. His death will be another addition to the dark history of Kashmir. Omar Abdullah in the past has said it could affect the situation in Kashmir, but saying it will shake Kashmir is wrong. People are trying to take political mileage from his case.Ē But Kamal added that Guru hanging could derail Indo-Pak relations. He also said president should consider his mercy petition as there is no direct evidence against Guru being involved in 2001 parliament attack and that Supreme Court has framed charges on basis of perception and not on hard core evidence.
