Srinagar: The Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Monday said that he would discuss the issue of providing security to panchayat members in meeting of Unified Headquarters to ensure their safety and smooth functioning. Omar condemned the killing of Naib-Sarpanch from district Baramulla Mohammad Shafi Teli and termed it act heinous and against public cause. “The establishment of powerful and functional Panchayat Raj in the State is my government’s commitment,” he said. He said all efforts would be made to safeguard the panchs and sarpanchs and provide them conducive-atmosphere to work for the good of people. Omar conveyed his grief and sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul. Scores of panches and sarpanches have resigned in Valley after posters surfaced in many areas of Kashmir since early this year asking panch members to resign from their posts or face dire consequences.
