Srinagar: In a first of its kind of incident, a group of stone pelters on Thursday abducted a police official and a Special Police Officer (SPO) in broad daylight in north Kashmir’s Baramulla town. While the SPO was released immediately after the abduction, the police official was held hostage for more than two hours, sources said. Police claimed that they rescued the abducted police official from an orchard near the Faqirwani old town Baramulla. Reports said the incident occurred at 2 pm when an unarmed police official Mushtaq Ahmmad Khandey and an unidentified Special Police Officer were busy in shopping near Baramulla Cement Bridge. Eyewitness account Eyewitnesses said around five to six youth appeared near the bridge and took them away towards the old town. The abductors were demanding the immediate release of some youth arrested by police a few days ago on the charges of stone pelting. Meanwhile, clashes between police and protesters erupted during evening in old town Baramulla, 55 kms from here.
