Two Militants Killed In Kashmir Encounter

Srinagar: Two militants have been killed in a prolonged encounter between security forces and militants in Chattergul area of north Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, defence sources said. The encounter started in the wee hours of Saturday when troops of two Rashtriya Rifles battalions cordoned off Chattergul forest area in the Kangan belt of north Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. One unidentified militant, suspected to be a Pakistani, was shot dead on Saturday. Spokesman of Srinagar based XV Corps Lt Col Jagmohan Brar said that the encounter was going on in the area till late on Sunday. “Today (Sunday) another militant has been shot dead in the encounter. The identity of the slain militants is being ascertained. The operation is still in progress”, Brar said. A senior police officer was quoted by the local media that notes of Pakistani currency were also recovered from the encounter site.
