Police said the arrested cop's militant organisation was also involved in an attack on rural development minister Ali Muhammad Sagar, killing of ruling National Conference block president, attack on Sufi religious scholar, attack on army, civil secretariat and on CRPF battalion in which seven CRPF personnel were injured. 'J&K police have busted a module of Kashmir Islamic Movement, a part of Hizbul Mujahideen, by arresting two militants Abdul Rashid Shigan alias Omar Mukhtar of Lachaman Pora Batmaloo and Imtiyaz Ahmad Gojri of Nawakadal in Srinagar,' inspector-general of police S.M Sahai said here addressing a press conference. Shigan is police constable and at present he was posted at the residence of superintendent of police, Bandipora. Gojri was a released militant of Hizbul Mujahideen. Sahai said Shigan was running Kashmir Islamic Movement under the code name of Omar Mukhtar. 'After attacks he would inform media as spokesman of Kashmir Islamic Movement and would own responsibility,' he said. Shigan, he said, before joining the police in 1998, he worked for the militant organisation. 'During police training he was arrested and booked under Public Safety Act. He was subsequently released. He was reinstated in police department in 2002 under some court order. He was sent on deputation to security wing of J&K Police. We will have to look at the circumstances under which he was reinstated,' Sahai said. He said the module was involved in attacks carried out over a period of 18 months from January 2011 to July 2012. On January 4, 2011 an attack was carried out on SHO Batmaloo Nazir Ahmad when the latter was travelling in his private vehicle. He sustained injures in the attack. He said he was involved in all the incidents. The police chief said Shigan didn't use service rifle while carrying all the attacks. He said he targeted police personnel and officials of J&K police because police was on the forefront of anti-militancy operations. In a raid on Shigan's house police recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition including two AK-47 rifles, 16 magazines of AK-47, 13 UBGL shells, one IED, 11 detonators, four Chinese pistols and five grenades.
