Four Grenade Attacks Rock J&K Within 24 Hours

Srinagar: Making it the fourth such incident since Tuesday evening, militants on Wednesday lobbed a grenade towards CRPF troopers in the Chanapora locality of Srinagar. Giving further details, the Jammu and Kashmir Police said unidentified militants hurled a hand grenade towards a picket manned by 154th battalion personnel of the CRPF at Chanapora bridge. However, the grenade missed the intending target and exploded on road side, without causing any damage. Reports said immediately after the attack, police and the CRPF troopers cordoned off the area and launched a manhunt to nab the attackers. On Tuesday evening, militants had hurled a grenade on Sopore Police Station in north Kashmir. According to the police, the grenade exploded in the lawn and damaged a vehicle parked inside the police station. In another attack a grenade was hurled on the camp of 179 battalion of the CRPF in main Sopore market late on Tuesday evening. SP Sopore Imtiyaz Hussain said that no one was injured during the attacks. “We have launched a massive manhunt to nab the culprits,” he told Deccan Herald. In a similar attack, a house of sarpanch was attacked by militants late onTuesday night in north Kashmir’s frontier district of Kupwara. The police said ultras hurled grenade on the house of sarpanch Mohammad Rustum Dar in Nagri Kupwara at 1 in the night causing damages to glass panes of the house. Reports said the attack has created panic among the panches and sarpanches in the area.
