Srinagar: In an interesting turn of events in the state’s politics, active deliberations are being held behind the scene by some political players for formation of an alternative political alliance in the state. According to a local news agency KNS, many important political players in the state including CPI (M) state Secretary Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, Peoples Democratic Front chairman Hakim Yasin and Independent MLA, Engineer Rashid have confirmed that they are in constant touch with each other. They also hinted at working out the possibility of formation of the alliance. While speaking to KNS, Tarigami confirmed the smaller parties are in touch with each other. “We meet each other regularly. Politics is change and change is politics, anything is possible.” However, Trigami evaded the question whether the parties will contest the elections as an alliance, “It is too early to say whether we will form an alliance to fight elections together.” Hakim Yasin confirmed to KNS that smaller parties are in touch with each other. “We are in touch with each other. People also want a change and we are actively considering formation of an alliance.” Yasin also rued the fact that the smaller parties did not fight the last assembly elections together. “Not fighting the last elections together was a mistake. We could have done much better fighting jointly.” MLA Langate also confirmed of being in touch with other parties. “Yes we are in touch. People want resolution of Kashmir issue and I am ready to be a part of any alliance that is for resolution of the issue.” Meanwhile, reliable sources in the state’s politics revealed that Union Minister and senior Congress leader Gulam Nabi Azad separately met the leaders of many smaller parties in this context, during his recent visits to the state. Tarigami, Hakim Yasin and Engineer Rashid confirmed their meetings with Azad. However the leaders did not confirm whether he (Azad) is encouraging the formation of such an alliance. “He is my friend and I met him”, said Tarigami.
