Srinagar: With a scathing attack on the PDP for its record on corruption, top NC leader and scion of Kashmir’s ruling dynasty, Dr. Mustafa Kamaal, on Thursday said that New Delhi had always plotted against the Abdullah family, and ‘pitted brother against sister’ under a deep conspiracy. “Guns were thrust into the hands Kashmiri youth to wipe out the Abdullah family, leading to the liquidation of NC ministers, block presidents and workers,” Dr. Kamaal said at a party convention in Shalbug Gandarbal. “Kashmiri youth were incited and compelled to take up arms against the National Conference, a move that plunged the state into uncertainty,” the additional general secretary of the NC said. Dr. Kamaal described the PDP as a creation of the BJP, claiming that it had been born in 2002 out of a plot. “It was under the rules of the PDP that Jammu and Kashmir received the title of the second most corrupt state of India,” he said. “How can Mufti Muhammad Sayeed claim to have created the State Accountability Commission? It was he who demolished it when 11 ministers of his party and some legislatures came under corruption charges,” he said. “He practically crippled the Commission when he saw his ministers coming under its ambit,” he said. “The party which is calling for a Lokpal today has forgotten that many of its ministers had been found involved in corruption,” he said. “If the Lokpal comes into being, the PDP will become hollow as most of its leaders will fall into its net,” he said. “The PDP had not only opposed restoring the Accountability Commission but also scuttled appointing its chairman, for it knew full well that this would reopen pending cases against its leaders and send them to jail. “Lack of accountability and transparency plagued the state during PDP rule when hardly any cabinet meeting concluded without unpleasant scenes,” he said. “Ministers often used to be at each other’s throats during such meets in the Mufti government.” Claiming that the NC had the distinction of leading and guiding people correctly in highly untoward circumstances, Dr. Kamaal had taken the reigns of office in 1996 on assurances that the ‘sky was the limit’ on restoring autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir.
