Srinagar: The chief of the Mahaz-e-Azadi, Azam Inquilabi, has proposed an “informal” Resistance Council to help what he described as Shabir Shah’s campaign to ‘purge’ the Kashmir movement’s leadership after Prof Abdul Ghani Bhat’s remarks on UN resolutions. “It is highly regrettable and painful that speaking in some village in the presence of Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, a member of the Hurriyat (M) should have disputed the UN resolutions on Kashmir in a bid to cosy up to pro-India politicians,” Inquilabi, who is a part of the Hurriyat (M)’s general council, said in a statement. “To help the campaign of reform and cleansing Shabir Ahmad Shah has launched along with Nayeem Khan, Zaffar Akbar Bhat and Javed Ahmad Mir, it is necessary to set up an informal Resistance High Council (spanning both parts of Kashmir),” he said. Inquilabi also proposed a number of names for the council, including those of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Dr. Muhammad Qasim, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Syed Salahuddin, Sultan Mahmood Chaudhary, and Sardar Attique Ahmad Khan. Inquilabi welcomed a statement from the UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon calling for a resolution of the Kashmir in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. “The UN secretary general’s words have kindled hope in dejected and downcast Kashmiri hearts,” he said.
