Jammu: Four legislators of ruling National Conference Wednesday moved a breach of privilege motion in Legislative Council against leader of opposition Murtaza Khan for passing alleged derogatory and defamatory remarks against Farooq Abdullah in multi-crore scam in Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA). The breach of privilege motion was admitted by chairman, Amrit Malhotra. It was referred to the privilege committee to conduct further proceedings. The motion against Khan was moved by Political Advisor to Chief Minister and MLC Devender Singh Rana and supported by Ajay Sadhotra, Khalid Najeeb Suharwardy and Javed Rana. In their privilege motion, NC legislators alleged that Khan levelled incorrect and malicious allegations against Farooq Abdullah and ministers by calling them corrupt with a view to mislead the House and tarnish their image. “Khan termed NC members of this House as thieves and murderers, thereby breaching the privilege of the members,” NC legislators said. They said PDP leader of the House has the habit of making wild allegations and using unparliamentary language against NC MLCs to provoke them and disrupt proceedings of the House, thus bringing Upper House to disrepute. “By doing so, Murtaza has committed a breach of privilege of the House as well as the members. He has also breached the rules and parliamentary practices and conventions by leveling allegations against a person, who was not present in the House to defend himself,” they said.
