Srinagar: Adding fire to his ‘war of words’ with the senior minister, Congress leader Abdul Gani Vakil Wednesday alleged that PHE Minister Taj Mohi-u-din was extremely corrupt and urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to initiate inquiry against him. However, Taj rubbished the claims and termed Vakil as a ‘mad man and black mailer’.Vakil, a former minister and senior legislator, said he appreciates the decision taken by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for ordering an inquiry against the Education Minister. “The same inquiry should be initiated against PHE minister Taj Mohi-u-Din in connection with the embezzlement cases. If CM can take cue from newspaper reports to initiate an inquiry against a minister, why not against the PHE minister,” he questioned. Vakil said newspaper reports during last one year have alleged involvement of Taj in multi crore scams in several PHE projects. “Why should he not be held accountable for spending public money worth crores of rupees”. Claiming that Congress president Sonia Gandhi has taken serious cognizance of the issue of corruption, he said, “We have been told by Congress High command to act as whistle blower if a minister is corrupt. I did the same thing by bringing the corrupt Congress leader into the notice of high command. They have taken this issue very seriously”. However, PHE minister Taj Mohiudin rubbished the allegations and termed Vakil as a ‘madman and black mailer’. “If he has evidence against me, he should approach the State Accountability Commission (SAC) to prove his allegations. I am not accountable to him neither answerable to his mad demands,” he said. The minister threatened to take Vakil to the court for defaming him in the public. Rubbishing Vakil’s claim that Congress high command has taken the issue seriously, Taj said the party has instead initiated inquiry against him. “The high command has taken notice of his wild allegations. A letter was sent to the party high command. It was signed by 12 Congress members including some minister and sought action against Vakil. The party has agreed to our demand,” he said. Taj said he was leveling allegations against him because he (Vakil) used to blackmail the party ministers while seeking favours. “He sought favors from Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, Education Minister and other ministers for transferring people from one place to others. I never conceded to his demands and for this reason he is leveling wild allegations against me through media,” he said. J&K Pradesh Congress Committee Saif-u-din Soz said refused to comment on infighting issue in the party. “I have no information what is going on,” he said.
