CM visits various areas in Valley, reviews essential services

Srinagar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who is here to personally oversee the restoration of essential services to the people which were severely disrupted by the heavy snowfall, today made surprise visit to four districts of South Kashmir. At Pulwama, the Chief Minister visited district hospital, ascertained the status of power restoration service and availability of healthcare facilities to the patients. He received brief about the road clearance operation, power restoration position, restoration of water supply and availability of essential commodities in the district at a meeting of officers there. District Development Commissioner, Pulwama, Shafat Noor said that all the major and link roads in the district have been cleared of snow. He said the snow clearance operation on six kilometers long road stretch in Sangerwani village is on last stage of clearance. He informed that there is buffer stock of essential commodities in the district. At Shopian, Omar visited district hospital, met the patients and ascertained the power supply position and functioning of hospital. He also reviewed restoration of essential services in the district during a meeting of officers. District Development Commissioner, Shopian, M S Sood giving brief about the snow clearance operation and restoration of other essential services informed the Chief Minister that all major roads have been cleared of snow while the snow clearance operation in interior roads and links is in final stage. He said that there is sufficient buffer of essential commodities and fuel in the district. At the third leg of his extensive tour of South Kashmir, Omar Abdullah drove to Kulgam from Shopian and ascertained the status of restoration of essential services and road clearance operation in Kulgam district. He made a visit to district hospital to get first hand appraisal of health care facilities and power position there. District Development Commissioner, Kulgam, Farooq Ahmad Khan gave details of the snow clearance operation and restoration of other services to the Chief Minister. He said all roads have been cleared of snow, PHE installations have been made functional and power restoration work is on. He said that there is sufficient stock of essential commodities in the district. In Anantnag district, Omar also reviewed the restoration of essential services and ascertained the availability position of essential commodities in a meeting of officers. He got brief about the restoration works. District Development Commissioner Anantnag, Syed Kifayat Rizvi said that there is buffer stock of essential commodities in the district. He said that snow clearance has been completed on all roads, PHE schemes have been made functional and power restoration work is on fast track. Mr Abdullah during the tour of these four districts also visited various ration depots, met deputations and groups of people at various areas enroute to get appraisal of the distribution of ration and restoration of essential services. The Chief Minister directed the district administration to be at quick response to the people and remain alert to face the challenges of weather vagaries. Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, B B Vyas, Principal Secretary R&B, K B Agarwal and Principal Secretary Power Sudhanshu Pandey accompanied the Chief Minister.
