PDP dividing people on religion's name: Farooq10 December 2011

Reasi: Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy and president, National Conference, Dr. Farooq Abdullah today said that National Conference denotes unity, amity and progress of the State and welfare and equitable development of all sections of the society is the basic policy of the party. Addressing a public gathering here, Dr. Farooq Abdullah ridiculed the negative politics being nurtured by various politicians to divide the society and mar economic welfare of the State. 'Their only concern is to exploit public emotions on one or the other pretext', he said asserting that this negative politics has done great damage to the State both politically and economically. He said that a new dawn of political stability and holistic progress has dawned in the State opening new vistas for peace, development and economic welfare. Criticizing PDP for its double-speak and divisive politics, Dr. Farooq said that this party is bent upon dividing people in the name of religion and region. 'Its leadership befools people in Kashmir, in Jammu and in New Delhi by speaking three different languages on AFSPA and other issues. This party is living on this type of tactics since its inception', he said, adding 'PDP derailed several projects including the launch of Sawalakot Power Project during their tenure in power as these were envisaged by my Government'. he cautioned the people about this kind of political behaviour. Underlining the role of women in the development of the society, the Union Minister said that women Sarpanches and Panches can revolutionize the welfare and progress of this section of the society in a big way. He said empowerment of Panchayats by the present Government is a historic step aimed at all round and equitable development of all areas of the State. Dr. Farooq said that his Ministry would involve Sarpanches and Panches in the stupendous task of providing solar lanterns and other appliances in far-flung and hilly areas where there is urgent requirement of this kind of energy. He said there is tremendous scope for harnessing the rich potential of solar, wind, water and thermal energy in the State especially in hilly areas. 'My Ministry is working on generating 200 MWs of new and renewable energy in the hilly region of Jammu', he said, adding that there are good resources of utilizing thermal and wind energy for production of power. He said he had asked the State Government to provide projects for utilizing this energy to his Ministry. 'We would provide full support in providing electricity to every household in the un-electrified far-flung, hilly and backward areas of the State', he said informing that the team of officers from his Ministry would visit Jammu soon to discuss it with the State Government. Asking National Conference and Congress workers to work together in bringing about permanent peace, stability and prosperity in the State, Dr. Farooq Abdullah said that Omar-led Coalition Government has initiated new and innovative measures to reach out to people in all areas in the State ensuring holistic and equitable development. 'You should join hands in making development programmes a success', he said, adding that the unity was key to achieve progressive and peaceful Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Forests, Mian Altaf Ahmad, Minister for Industries, S. S. Slathia, Minister for Higher Education, Abdul Gani Malik, Political Advisor to the Chief Minister, Devender Singh Rana, provincial president, National Conference, Rattan Lal Gupta and Babu Jagjeevan Lal presented the resume of the achievements registered in various sectors in the State during last three years of the Coalition Government led by Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah. They said that new and innovative measures were initiated by Omar Abdullah to make administration responsive and nurture good-governance in the State. They referred to the initiatives of Public Service Guarantee Act, adding that this historic measure of the present Coalition Government would go in a long way in restricting corruption and ensuring fast track delivery of public services to the people. They stressed on close coordination and cooperation between the workers of National Conference and Congress at all levels and said that the Coalition Government represent aspiration of the people of the State. 'We have to work in unity to address the public grievances and carry forward development process on fast track', they added.
