Journalists Beaten Up By CRPF In Kashmir25 November 2011
Srinagar: Three journalists were allegedly thrashed by police and CRPF personnel and another was detained while covering protests in the old city here on Friday. Two photojournalists and a video journalist were hospitalised. Shahid Tantray, a photojournalist working for Dainik Bhaskar , was detained at the Nowhatta police station. Though Nowhatta police station SHO Iqbal Shah confirmed Mr. Tantray detention, he denied any assault on journalists. The photojournalists were allegedly beaten up while they were covering the protests at Saraf Kadal. Umer Mehraj, working as a video-journalist for Associated Press Television News (APTN), and Yawar Kabli and Showkat Shafi - both freelance photojournalists - were rushed to the SKIMS Hospital in Soura. Talking to PTI over telephone from hospital, one of the injured journalists said they were “ruthlessly” beaten by CRPF personnel and the police while they were parking a motorcycle. The Kashmir Photojournalists Association has condemned the attack.
