Kashmir Despatch

Srinagar: A day after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah accused “pro-election and anti-election” politicians of exploiting young generation, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Yaseen Malik Wednesday took exception of the statement, asserting that only pro-Indian politicians exploit the youth. “As the Jammu and Kashmir remains unresolved, we have devastated several generations and our present generation too is getting affected. In every phase of the history, youth have always expressed desperation and emotions for the freedom,” Malik said in a statement here. “These sentiments for freedom are same which drove then young man Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah in 1930s and he continued to fight for the cause for quite some time,” he said. Malik said that accusing the pro-freedom leaders of exploiting the youth was incorrect. “The fact of the matter is that our youth have been exploited by pro-India politicians and leaders. Ever since India entered in 1947, so-called mainstream politicians including National Conference, Congress, PDP and other parties, in order to justify and prolong illegal occupation of India, subjected people to oppression,” he said, adding, “Our youth get this in legacy as soon as they open their eyes and to resolve this issue, they join the freedom struggle. Soon after joining the cause, the youth are arrested and to get released, they have to fulfil tough formalities.” For employment, he said, the youth have to get verification and bear humiliation at several stages to get it cleared. “They are forced to vote for them, walk with the pro-Indian politicians and do other such works. And if this is not exploitation, what is it?” Malik said that the reality was that Jammu and Kashmir is a “disputed territory” and youth were committed to decide their future. ‘On every phase, the youth of Kashmir has always treaded the path of resistance. To crush these sentiments, oppressors and occupying forces and their supporters exploited them.” “Pro-freedom parties are representatives of their sentiments and as such it is impossible for them to exploit the youth. Exploitation is done by those parties who are after power”. He said that resolution of Kashmir on priority basis was the lone way out to secure the youth secured. “Whosoever claims to be the well wishers of the youth, he should struggle for the resolution of the issue.”
