UJC Chief Warns Pak Against MFN Status To India14 October 2011
Muzaffarabad: The chief of the Muzaffarabad-based United Jehad Council, Syed Salahuddin has opposed Pakistan’s intention to grant most favoured nation (MFN) status to India, asserting that the move would be a “direct contravention” of Islamabad’s long-standing position on the Kashmir issue. “Such moves by Pakistan will inflict severe damage on the Kashmiri freedom struggle. Pakistan’s leaders should take the recognised leadership of Kashmir into confidence before taking such sensitive decisions,” the UJC chief was quoted as having said at a meeting of the command council of the Hizb-ul-Mjahideen, the major constituent of the alliance of militant groups operating in Kashmir. “Granting India MFN status would amount to rubbing salt into the wounds of Kashmiris,” he said. “Pakistan has always fully backed the Kashmiri freedom movement, and adopted a principled stand based on facts. Islamabad’s MFN status to India would be a direct contravention of its long-standing position on Kashmir, with negative fallout on the Kashmiri freedom movement,” he said. “The Indian leadership has always tried its utmost to disenchant Kashmiris from Pakistan, and this decision would certainly create a state of mistrust,” he said. “Indian rulers and their unbridled troops have exterminated lakhs of Kashmiris since 1947 in general and 1988 in particular. They have wiped out entire localities, and are still bent upon violating the privacy and sanctity of veils and homes,” he said. “In such a situation, if any (Pakistani) government grants the most favoured status to the nation of such ruthlessly oppressive rulers, it is certain to lead to mistrust and doubt,” he said. “The Kashmiri masses and their political and militant leadership deem such a move as highly undesirable, and fraught with grave consequences,” he said. “There should be no room for doubt that the Kashmiri people will not rest in peace until they achieve their goal of freedom,” he said. “Kashmiri mujahideen has carrying out their operations effectively and efficiently, and writing the history of their freedom struggle with their blood,” he said.
