3 militants, cop killed; 2 jawans hurt in encounter26 September 2011

Srinagar: Three militants and a police constable were killed in a fierce ongoing encounter between security forces and the militants while two security force jawans were injured in Kralpora forests in the frontier district of Kupwara today. An Army spokesman while giving details said three militants have been killed in the encounter that is still going on. However, the bodies of these militants were not recovered as the encounter was in progress. He said that these militants had infiltrated into the Kralpora forest area of Kupwara where security forces launched a major operation against them. Police identified the dead constable as Shiraz Ahmad while one of the injured constable has been identified as Gulzar Ahmad and another injured security jawan belonged to18 Grenadiers of the Army. A police spokesman said that police and 18 Grenadiers of the Army had laid a siege around Awathkul forest area in Kralpora this afternoon. The operation was launched after security forces received specific information about the presence of heavily armed militants in the area. Militants fired upon the advance party of the troops which was retaliated, triggering an encounter which is still going on. More troops have been rushed so that militants didn't flee under the cover of darkness. Meanwhile, militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) today fired and injured a youth in Sopore while security forces busted a militant hide out in Nishat in the outskirts of Srinagar and arrested six persons including three militants from South Kashmir. Police said militants opened fire on one Firdous Ahmad Sheikh, 25, of Jalal Abad, Sopore at Noor Bagh Bypass, Sopore. Sheikh was riding a motor cycle when he was fired at and was shifted to Bone and Joints Hospital in Srinagar for treatment. Police later identified the militant who shot at Sheikh as Muzaffar Ahmad Naiko alias Muza Molvi of LeT. In Srinagar, security forces have busted a militant hideout in Nishat area and recovered ammunition and explosives. Police said troops of the 7 Rashtriya Rifles of the Army and police launched a search operation in the forest area of Nishat, last evening. They said during the search operation, the security forces busted the militant hideout and recovered two hand grenades, one UBGL grenade, two radio sets with antennae, two AK magazines, 48 AK rounds, 79 pistol rounds and four pouches. Police also claimed to have arrested two militants of LeT and the driver of their vehicle from Anantnag district of South Kashmir. Police had set up a check point at Khirram in Anantnag last night following information about movement of militants in the area. Police said the cab in which the militants were travelling was signalled to stop but the driver tried to flee from the spot. The policemen then opened fire in which the driver and one of the militants were injured. The injured persons have been identified as Mohammad Yousuf Lone, a LeT militant, and driver of the vehicle Nissar Ahmad Laway. The duo and another militant, Abdul Hamid Bhat alias Zulfikar, were arrested while another militant Sajad Ahmad Bhat alias Gowhar managed to escape, said police. Police further said two pistols, two hand grenades and some ammunition were recovered from the possession of the arrested militants. Security forces arrested a militant of Hizbul Mujahideen identified as Showkat Ahmad Dar alias Abrarul Islam with his two Over Ground Workers (OGW's) at Samboora Pampore in South Kashmir and recovered arms and ammunition from their possession. Police said that on a specific information regarding movement of militants, Awantipora police alongwith Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and 55 RR established a naka at Karnabal, Samboora. During the Naka checking, a Maruti Car bearing registration number JK13-5435 was noticed suspiciously turning towards Allochibagh link road. The naka party chased the car and intercepted it near village Allochibagh, Samboora. However, one of the persons boarding the car tried to lob a grenade towards the police party, said police. However, prompt action of the police party led to the arrest of all three persons in the car, said police. The arrested persons were identified as Hizbul Mujahideen militant, Showkat Ahmad Dar alias Abrarul Islam son of Ghulam Rasool resident of Panzgam, Ghulam Hassan Bhat son of Mohammad Sideeq resident of Renzipora Awantipora and Showkat Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Ahmad resident of Renzipora. Police said one AK rifle, three AK magazines, 120 AK rounds, one pouch, one pistol, one pistol magazine, six pistol rounds and two hand grenades were recovered from their possession. Showkat Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Rasool is an active militant of HM outfit who has been operating in Pulwama and Awantipora areas since last one year and was involved in a number of subversive activities, said police.
