CM Chairs Unified Hqrs Meet, Reviews Security Scenario23 August 2011
Srinagar: The Chief minister Omar Abdullah Tuesday chaired a unified headquarters meeting and reviewed security scenario in the Valley. The meeting decided that following surge in infiltration attempts and encounters, the troops won’t lower guard across the State. Sources said the meeting discussed the overall security scenario in the State especially the recent infiltration attempt and the subsequent surge in the encounters. They said the meeting started at 3 pm and lasted till 4.45 pm. A source said that the meeting deliberated on the recent surge in encounters and infiltration attempts especially the recent one in Gurez, where army claimed to have killed 12 militants. “The chief minister was told that militants had started adopting new ways (using boats to cross the river etc) to sneak into this side,” he said. “Omar was assured by the heads of various security agencies that forces were maintaining tight vigil across the border to foil every infiltration bid. There was no question of lowering the guard across the LoC as militants would make every effort to infiltrate before the onset of winter,” sources quoted one of the security official as having said in the meeting. Following heavy snowfall across the LoC during winters, almost all infiltrating routes get blocked and it becomes difficult for the militants to sneak in. Sources said the meeting also discussed post-Eid protest threat issued by Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani. “Security agencies were directed to maintain close coordination to foil every attempt aimed at disturbing law and order situation,” they said. Besides, Chief minister, Deputy chief minister Tara Chand, Minister of State for Home Nasir Aslam Wani, GoC 15 Crops Lt Gen Syed Atta Hasnain, Chief Secretary Madhav Lal, Director General Police Kuldeep Khoda, Principal Secretary Home B R Sharma, Principal Secretary to chief minister B B Vyas, DG CRPF A Uppal, Additional Director IB Ashok Prasad, Additional Director General Police (Armed and Law & Order), J&K K Rajendra, IG CRPF (Ops) BN Ramesh, IG CRPF (Adm) Ravi Prakash, IG BSF Anil Kamdoj, Additional Commissioner SB P K Patel, IGP Kashmir S M Sahai, IGP (CID), J&K B.
