Srinagar: In a significant development in the custodial killing of a Sopore youth, Special Investigation Team (SIT) of police investigating the case arrested two policemen for their alleged role in the killing. A police spokesman said here this evening that SIT headed by Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir Munir Ahmad Khan took selection grade constables Nissar Ahmad and Mohammad Abbas into custody this evening for the death of Nazim Rashid alias Anjum, 28, in police custody on Sunday. These arrested cops, along with a Sub-Inspector, had been suspended soon after the death of the youth. Even the SP Sopore, Altaf Ahmad Khan was transferred by the Government for what they said smooth conduct of investigations. DySP Special Operations Group (SOG) was also attached. Nazim Rashid of Krankshiven colony in Sopore town, died in custody of SOG after he was picked up last week for questioning in connection with the killing of a labourer, Muhammad Ashraf Dar, allegedly killed by militants on July 28. A medical board was constituted by the District Magistrate, Baramulla that conducted autopsy of Nazim confirmed finding torture marks on his body, said sources. 'Muhammad Ahsan Mir, the Sub-Divisional magistrate (SDM) of Sopore who is conducting the magisterial inquiry into the youth's death didn't find any lock up in Tarzoo police station where Zamin was initially taken. This indicated that Nazim was detained by the SOG and not by the Tarzoo police station and that is why the SOG men were first suspended and now two of them arrested', sources added. It is on the basis of the circumstantial evidence and medical report that the two cops were arrested, revealed the sources.
