Kulgam: Restrictions remained imposed in Manzigam village in this South Kashmir district for the second consecutive day Sunday. Several youth were detained by police for allegedly instigating violence in the area on past Friday. Witnesses said police and paramilitary forces were deployed in large numbers in Manzigam and the movement of people was curtailed. Police have also cracked down on some youth for allegedly instigating violence in the area on Friday when six cops were injured and a vehicle of a Revenue Department was set ablaze. Six youth are reportedly under detention. Sources said a case has been registered against 25 youth from Manzigam village “for being involved in stone pelting and setting the vehicle on fire.” Shutdown was also observed in the neighboring Damhal Hanjipora village for the forth straight day. However, in Kulgam town shops remained opened today after remaining closed for three days. Police and other security personnel are maintaining a tight vigil on the entire Kulgam district and carrying searches of vehicles. Pertinently, protests erupted in Kulgam district on past Thursday following the alleged rape of a 25-year-old woman of Gujjar Dar area in Manzigam village. The police immediately filed an FIR against the army and constituted a Special Investigating Team to probe the allegation. The team is however yet to carry out the identification parade of the army personnel who were camped near Gujjar Dhokas in Chiranbal and Kadalbal forests-where the crime has been allegedly been committed. Medical report is still awaited in the case. Police said it has collected circumstantial evidence from the spot. The vaginal smears and other necessary samples of the victim have been sent for forensic examination. Police guards have been placed at the victim’s home at Gujjardara Manzgam village.
