27 Militants Active In Rajouri, Poonch: Parnaik

Jammu: In the wake of recent attempts being made from across the Line of Control (LoC) by the militants to sneak into the Indian Territory, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Army’s Northern Command Lt General K T Parnaik today said 16 training camps are still functional across the fence in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK). 'Around 16 training camps still exists in PoK and we are fully prepared to foil any attempts being made by the neighboring country to create any disturbance in State,' Lt Gen Parnaik told reporters during his visit to forward areas of Rajouri and Poonch districts. The Army Commander said that to thwart any possible infiltration, Army was maintaining a tight vigil along the LoC using night vision equipment adding, 'there will soon be realignment of the fence along the LoC near Keran Post in Poonch district.' On number of militants of various outfits functional in these bordering belts, Lt Gen Parnaik said, 'presently 27 militants were active in the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region.' He added that attempts were being made by the neighboring country to push more militants in this region but Army is maintaining vigil along the border. 'Twenty-seven militants associated with Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), Harkat-ul-Jihad Islami (HUJI) and Hizbul Mujahideen (HM), are still active in Rajouri and Poonch districts,' the Army Commander said. He said that Army is alert as the internal situation in the Pakistan was forcing militants to flee the country and sneak into State adding, a tight vigil is being maintained and the Army is foiling all attempts of the terrorists trying to enter the territory. Earlier, Lt Gen Parnaik visited several forward locations in Poonch and Rajouri sectors and reviewed over all security situation today. Accompanied by GOC 16 Corps, Lt Gen J P Nehra and Maj Gen Om Parkash, GOC 25 Infantary Division, Lt Gen Parnaik moved to several forward locations along the LoC and reviewed the over all security situation. He also spoke to the field commanders and jawans deployed along the LoC and gathered first hand information about the general security situation. During the security review at the 25 Div Headquarters this afternoon, Lt Gen Parnaik was briefed by the field commanders and given the detail about the infiltration attempts and other activities along the border and in other areas where forces have been deployed. He expressed satisfaction over the security arrangements and lauded the role of Ace of Spade Division in accomplishing the task and achieving zero infiltration level. While interacting with the prominent citizens at Rajouri, the GOC-in-C said that militancy was not over and there was need to remain vigilant by the forces as well as the people. He said militants continued to get support from the Pak army for making intrusion attempts. Gen Parnaik assured full support to the people through ‘Operation Sadbhavna’. The people projected demand of opening an Army school at Nowshera and taking fencing more closer to LoC as the farmers- villagers were facing lot of problems while moving to their fields- land. He assured to take up the issues with the higher authorities. DIG, Police Rajouri-Poonch Range, Rajesh Kumar and some other officers were also present during the meeting.
