5 Detained In Jammu Car-bomb Explosion Case

Jammu: Five persons were detained in connection with the car-bomb explosion in which one person was killed and 10 others injured in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district, police said today. Five persons were detained for questioning in connection with the yesterday's explosion near Army Cantonment at Brimi bridge. They are being questioned about the car used in the blast and movement of suspected persons in the area before the explosion, Udhampur-Reasi range DIG Jagjit Kumar said. Suspected militants triggered the explosion through a remote control when the car of Major General D S Pathania was passing through the bridge. Though the Army officer escaped unhurt, the driver was injured and window panes of the car were damaged. According to preliminary investigations, RDX was used in the explosion, however, a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team which has collected the samples from the spot of the blast will give a final report in this connection, police said. The car used in the blast was a white Maruti Van, which was stolen from Chabutra Bazar area of Udhampur town five days ago. It had been sold from Siliguri area in West Bengal and was bought by some private security agency and later purchased by an Udhampur resident, police said. Investigation is going in connection with procurement of car in the blast, the DIG said. This is for the first time that a car bomb blast has taken place in Jammu division.
